Description: Antique Japanese Wooden Red Lacquer Sakazuki Sake Cup Gold Makie 3” This is an antique Japanese late Meiji Era (c. 1910) lacquer sakazuki (sake cup) made of hand turned cryptomeria wood with over twenty layers of red lacquer. It has makie (raised gold artwork) depicting Mt Fuji and lace scape. Japanese lacquer from the Meiji era was considered the finest ever made. It is durable enough to withstand the harshest treatment the centuries have thrown at it. Having been in storage for over a century, this sakazuki remains in very fine condition throughout and is in good polish. Measures about 3 1/2" in diameter by 1" tall.
