Description: RARE Antique Leather "Double Door" Photograph Case 6th plate, similar to Berg #5-11 (L772). A scarce example of the E. Larwill, Newark, NJ patent "Double Door" photograph case. Larwill was an early manufacturer who applied for a patent for this type of case in 1849 and universally advertised his cases as "cheap". The case opens in the middle and has a shield as a faux closure. There are hook and eye latches at top and bottom. This example is in excellent condition with original hinges and almost undamaged leather having a nice botanical scroll pattern and fancy gold borders. Nice wine colored split pillow. Fading but clear early dag of a grandmotherly lady in a white bonnet. NOTE: One pin for the shield decoration is missing. Ships USPS Ground Advantage.
