Description: ANTIQUE LUXOR TENOR BANJO. This is a Luxor tenor banjo from the 1920's. Luxor was the house banjo and ukulele brand of musical instrument distributors Horenstein & Sons of New York in the 1920s. They were not manufacturers themselves but distributed Luxor branded instruments (most likely made by JRStewart , Globe Musical , Stromberg-Voisinet or Kay) to the music trade. It is very difficult to come across exactly who the builder of this instrument was; the numbers of them that were built has probably been lost to the ages. This instrument has no serial numbers or date stamped into it. It’s a nice collector’s piece. Although these do pop up from time to time, they are not the most common of 1920's tenor banjos. This banjo is 31 inch overall 17 frets. The neck is maple. The 11 inch rim is unusual in that it is made from a one piece steel stamping. The pot is open back. Original tailpiece. New replacement tuning pegs, skin head, bridge. This instrument comes with no case. The pot on this one was painted a silver-grey, and, by all appearances, it is wearing its original paint job. Some where in its past someone has drilled 4 holes, 2 in the peg head close to the nut,one below the first fret and the final one just above the third fret. Someone has filled the holes, but they are noticeable. No effort has been made to restore the finish; the rim's nicks, or the aforementioned 4 filled holes. The scratches, rubs and etc. attest to its age and use. Additional specific pictures upon request. I will answer any questions you may have. Given the age and type of this instrument, it is sold “AS IS”, with no guarantee or warranty implied or offered. No returns or refunds will be considered for any reason.
