Description: Gorgeous antique moriage squat vase from the Nippon era of 1891-1911. It is unmarked, as many moriage pieces from this period are, but I think based on the elaborately detailed decoration it is indisputablly a Nippon piece. It is in the Art Nouveau style with tiny, delicate floral and scrolled patterns that are among the best moriage decoration I have ever seen. The colors range from pink and lavender to green to dark blue at the top. Even the ruffled edge, the two small handles, and the four little feet are decorated. The piece is only 4" tall, 2 1/2" across the opening, and 6" across at the widest point in the center, but it packs a great punch for its small size! It is in very good antique condition with a couple of small flaws: there are two shallow chips on the underside of the ruffled edge (one is 1/2" long and the other is 1/4" long), which I have shown from both the upright and underneath angles in the last few closeup photos. They are hard to see when the vase is upright. There is also an area on the front of one of the feet where the moriage has been chipped. That is hard to see as well I don't see any chips in the moriage on the body of the piece, and the work is absolutely exquisite, so I don't think you will mind the flaws. This will make a stunning addition to a Nippon vase collection. I am listing a group of lovely Nippon vases from a local collector this week, so please check out my other listings if you also collect these beautiful antiques!
