Description: This is a lovely and enchanting Antique Old ORIENTALIST Arab Desert EGYPT Pyramids Painting, Gouache on Paper, by the talented turn of the century British born Orientalist painter, Victor L. Prescott. Unfortunately, there is very little biographical information available on this artist, but perhaps you know more about him or his work? This piece depicts a scenic view of the "Old Cairo" landscape, with ancient ruins, archaic columns, palm trees, and an Ottoman style mosque with minarets in the distance. The Nile River flows through the foreground, where a lone Bedouin rider on the back of a camel is portrayed in a stoic pose. To the right of this figure, in the far distance are the majestic Pyramids of Giza, rendered in a pale lavender hue. Signed and dated: "Victor L. Prescott 1922" in the lower right corner. Approximately 10 7/8 x 15 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual visible artwork is approximately 4 3/8 x 9 1/4 inches. The production of this piece coincides with the discovery of King Tut's tomb on November 4th, 1922, by Howard Carter (1874 - 1939.) This remarkable event sparked widespread Egyptomania amongst European and North American societies. Good condition for over a century of age and storage, with mild scuffing, edge wear and gilding loss to the original period antique gilded wood frame (please see photos.)
