State: Second state of 2 Ref: Hollstein 446 Theatrum Biblicum Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Antonie Wierix' after 'Maerten de Vos'. Anthony (or Anton II) Wierix (1555-1604) was a Flemish engraver from the famous and prolific Wierix family of engravers. Maarten de Vos (1532-1603) was an Antwerp painter and draughtsman of the late sixteenth century. His travels to Italy made him adopt the Mannerist style. His designs were very popular and were followed widely.
