Description: Antique Salt Mouth Apothecary Jar ACETANILIDE Label Under Glass Fay & Schueler Offered for your consideration is this Antique 1890's F&S (Fay & Schueler Co) Salt Mouth Apothecary Jar with ACETANILID. (acetanilide) Label Under Glass. It features 1 oval and 3 flat sides and recessed area across front oval side with bottom embossed “F&S | PAT'D MARCH 6TH, 1894 | ST. LOUIS, MO.” It measures 8-1/4" high with the ground stopper (7-3/16" without it) x 2-3/4" wide x 2-3/4" deep & weighs in at 1lb 2.2 oz. Outside mouth rim diameter is 2-1/2" and opening is 1-7/8". Bottle was blown in a two-piece mold with diagonal seams. The stopper is a salt mouth hollow pattern with indentations made in a two-piece mold. The external surface have been wiped down but we have avoided cleaning in and around the label area and internal area has not been cleaned. Label composition behind the glass is yellowing and showing age. At the bottom of photo #1 and the last photo is the group shot of what we had. If it is not listed on this site that means we have already sold it. FYI: ACETANILID.: acetanilide, synthetic organic compound introduced in therapy in 1886 as a fever-reducing drug. Its effectiveness in relieving pain was discovered soon thereafter, and it was used as an alternative to aspirin for many years in treating such common complaints as headache, menstrual cramps, and rheumatism. Herman William Fay and Richard J.
