No slug included. Please scroll for more photos below the text. Size: L 11 cm (4.25 inches) - W 6 cm (back) - H 10 cm. Weight: 380 gram. Material: brass, iron, wood. Markings: several indentations indicate the maker; the number 4 is on the drop-down door. Shape: pointed nose, straight back, box; two upright stands, a turned wooden handle; iron stick - screwed in - to move door up and down. Manufacturer: a coppersmith in Europe Germany or Austria. Additional remarks: - Door possibly a replacement, originating from a slightly bigger model, made to fit. The iron part of the handle could also be a replacement. The cute copper thingie is a later addition. As are the two brass screws on the wooden handle. - Iron has a nice pattern of heat-moderators (inside, on the bottom).- Box irons had pieces of iron inside called slugs. These were heated in the hearth and then put in the iron.- The drop down door was also called a guillotine door. - Manufactured between 1800 - 1850.
