Description: This is a 17th century swept hilt rapier from Juanez of (de) Toledo, Spain. From the research I have done Juanez the Elder, was a sword maker in Toledo from 1650-1675. The hilt is finely detailed by chiseling or filing. I have seen one other Rapier by Juanez de Toledo and the hilt on that sword was equally intricate and detailed. A number of years ago I played Aramis in the Three Musketeers and wanted a sword from the Renaissance. This sword is just a bit heavier then the stage sword I used in the production. This sword measures 48 inches from tip to pommel and weighs 2 pounds 2 ounces. The sword and hilt have slight rust that could be cleaned up if one so desired. The pommel that acts as a slight counterweight to the sword is just a little bit loose as is the wire grip. I have sent the sword in for a professional hilt tightening as the blade used to wobble a bit. Otherwise the blade and condition are in excellent condition. The wire grip is finished by "Turk's Head" knots that appear to be original. Message me with any questions.
