Description: Antique Theodore B Starr New York Sterling Silver Brush Jars Set Fine Provenance. Monogrammed RS as this set was given to Richard W Stillwell of the Stillwell family best known from Princeton University. Dated 1907 and apparently given to Richard when he was 15 years old by his father Lewis Buckley Stillwell, I recently acquired a lot of Stillwell family heirlooms. This set includes brush, 2 jars (both top and bottom are solid sterling), file, grooming tool and scissors. There is a second smaller pair of scissors that is marked Sheffield England, everything else is original Theodore B Starr sterling. The vase is also original with the Starr marking. Good condition but please refer to the many detailed photos. This item was from the estate of Agnes Newhall Stillwell 1906-1957 & Richard W Stillwell 1899-1982 who were well known professors at Princeton University, in fact several generations of the Stillwell family included many who lectured at Princeton. I recently acquired many fine items from the Stillwell family estate at Plymouth MA. Theodore B. Starr was a company of silversmiths founded in New York in 1862 by Theodore Starr. In 1864, he was joined by Herman Marcus, and the company became known as Starr and Marcus. Marcus left to join Tiffany's in 1877, and Starr bought back control of the company, with the name of the company becoming Theodore B. Starr. The company was incorporated in 1907 by Starr's son, before being bought in 1918 by Reed and Barton, a silver firm, and finally closing in 1923.
