Description: This is a great matched set of WWI trench art vases, each reflecting the detailed efforts by the artist to create a flower on one side and a shield on the reverse. Each vase stands 13-1/2" in height with the diameter of approximately 3". One shield does reflect scratches, and both pieces could benefit from proper polishing if desired. Otherwise, the tarnished look seems age appropriate and helps to highlight the raised designs. No information to share about the significance or meaning of the markings on the base of each shell, although someone with a better understanding of artillery would certainly be able to clarify.
