Description: This is an antique Victorian delicate miniature ormolu mother of pearl shell basket. I believe it is French. It dates from somewhere around the 1880s. The body of the basket is a lustrous mother of pearl shell. The ormolu work is a golden tone. Maybe brass? I'm really not sure. This is a small, delicate piece. I'm not sure if it was a pin / trinket dish or if it was just to admire. It measures approximately 1.5 " high from the top of the basket handle to the bottom of the base. The mother of pearl basket section measures approximately 1 & 5/8" long by 1 & 1/16" at its widest point. The base measures approximately 1 & 1/16" across. I have shown photos with a quarter to help you judge the size. There is some tarnish / age discoloration. I have not cleaned or polished it in any way. It looks darker and more prevalent in the photos than it does in person. There is a teeny tiny area on the base where the metal is pierced. Nothing major. I have shown it in the photos. This really is an unusual and lovely antique piece. I have never seen another one this size before. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I wrap all my items carefully.
