Many pieces were created and worn by the rich to confound highwaymen in the 18-19th centuries. Later it was used to create lovely gold pieces for those who could not afford real gold.Pinchbeck is an alloy of copper and zinc resembling gold. It was invented in the early 18th century by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London clock and watchmaker. Brummagem 'Gold' was another name for Pinchbeck. Fun fact: BRUMMAGEM (n or adj) = showy but worthless.
