Description: This was something we'd never seen before in Japan. We recognized that it was an electric switch / button but we had to look it up to learn it's purpose. It's very well made. It's a very simple electric connection. The two wire electric cord would go through the top. The two wires would connect to the two screws inside. (See photos # 5 & 6) the wires would not be connected until you pushed the bottom button. That button is under spring tension from the circular brass strip inside. Push the button and the two wires would connect completing the electric connection and turning on the electric bell / sound / notification. Take your finger off the button the spring tension pushes the brass away and the electric connection is broken. The wood is some kind of hard wood. The two parts are threaded together and the threads still turn. (See the photos) The white parts appear to be made of ox bone. This is in such good condition, there is no reason why it could not still be connected and made to work. It's 3 inches long We have two of these listed, they look identical.
