Description: Part of our Real Artifacts Line: We offer; An Apollo Astronaut Communications switch, known as a "Cobra Head" Acquired at the Charlie Bell space surplus auction in the 2000 auction, this is an original Apollo "Cobra Head" .This unit was the switch control for the data / communications cable that connected the astronaut to the spacecraft. Officially known as a communications control assembly, it allowed the astronaut to switch communication circuits for either the spacecraft or mission control. It also routed communications, biomedical signals, and warning tones from the astronaut to the command or Lunar module. However, this one, seems to have been "dissected", as the silicon protective neck has been mostly cut away. It still retains it's main body and electrical connectors, but is also missing the rocker switch. These are extremely rare, as they were only used on the Apollo missions. The Air-lock male connector is serial number 9125. Note:In the 2015 RR Auction, lot #9167, which was for just the two Air-Lock electrical connectors, (the ones on either end of this cobra head) sold for over $5,000 Here at Orbital Surplus, we collect odds and ends from anywhere in the galaxy. So depending on what empire has collapsed, space freighter has crashed or Transport "got lost", we never know what we will receive next. However, we have lost our lease on the asteroid we have called home for more than 30 solar cycles and have to move. So we are finding stuff we forgot we had, and this is where you luck out, cause it all has to go!
