Notes: Skepsis (Scepsis) was an ancient village located on Mt Ida along the Scamander in the Troad region of Anatolia in Asia Minor. Its acropolis occupied the hill north of the modern village of Kurşuntepe, near the town of Bayramiç in Turkey. The Scamander was a river flowing along Mt Ida across the Plain of Troy and into the Dardanelles. The town was famous in antiquity as the location of the library of Aristotle for a time before being moved to Pergamon and Alexandria. The works were said to have been discovered there during the time of Sulla and had been buried by the illiterate relations of Neleus (a pupil of Aristotle and friend of Theophrastus), so that they would not be carried off by Attalus I, who was then founding the Library of Pergamum In B.C. 310 its inhabitants were removed to Antigoneia (Alexandreia Troas), but were afterwards allowed to return home by Lysimachus.
