A lovely Arion Press edition of Brautigan's classic work of prose fiction. DESCRIPTION: Quarto, 11-3/4 by 8-3/4 inches, 124 pages. Limited edition of 400 copies. Bound in a fine blue and gray cloth, printed with titling and decoration on the front cover. The type is Bookman, composed and cast by Mackenzie & Harris in San Francisco. The paper is Mohawk Superfine. Includes a photographic portrait of the author taken in 1967 by Edmund Shea, published here for the first time, printed by Watermark Graphics in San Francisco. CONDITION: Very fine ("as new"). This book was issued without a slipcase. DISCUSSION: A counter-culture classic from the late great '60s. It is as much poetry as prose fiction, a meandering series of slightly surreal anecdotes. This edition includes an introductory essay (preface) with insights into Brautigan's life by Ron Loewinsohn, Professor of English at the University of California at Berkeley. A straightforward, elegant Arion Press edition in a clear, unfussy type, a joy to hold and read. Although this book was written in a kinder, gentler time, its humor and whimsical nature have lost none of its appeal.
