Description: Plaster of Paris FRED PRESS(1919-2012) Nubian Dancers Estate Find We offer a pair of Plaster of Paris Nubian Dancers on wooden bases designed by Fred Press(1919-2012). The pair are sculpted in a fluid motion and adorned with elaborate dress and head wear. Probably crafted in the 1950s. Some flakes to the coal gray finish and one figurine has repairs to the neck and one arm. Fred Press earned awards for his sculpture as a youth in the 1930's and later marketed reproductions of his sculpture through Contemporary Arts, Inc. founded in the late 1930's by he and his brother. In the 1940's, Fred Press served in the Army in the Panama Canal Zone where his art was influenced by the surrounding area's history and culture. Beginning in the 1950's, Fred Press spent three decades in New York as chief designer for the giftware company Rubel and Company. The Museum of Modern Art, NY awarded him a Good Design award for his numerous multi-media products. ry.
