Description: Up for sale is a really unique piece! This is the original art for the top right panel of page 12 of Longshot #1, Arthur Adam’s first professional work and the first appearance of the X-Man Longshot and the Mojoverse characters! What makes this page especially unique is the note to the inker. Adams gives detailed instructions, ending with “If this is confusing just ask me and I’ll see what I can do to confuse you some more.” It’s no wonder he took so long to complete this single issue, considering the amount of thought that went into each panel! The panel depicts the psychic imprint of a Mojoverse rebel tracker demon and a white silhouette of Longshot. There is a tape mark where the pasteup mentioned by Adams was once attached. The third picture is an example of the finished page (it is only a digital copy and therefore not included). Additionally, this piece includes an unpublished (as far as I know) illustration of Gog N’MaGog or Pup, as Longshot calls him. This sinister character will go on to play a major role in this limited series! In the lower margin and on the back are a couple of other bonuses! There is a penciled sketch of Groo the Wanderer, “Groo Who?” in the lower margin. There are additional inked sketches on the back of the board. Bill Anderson and Whilce Portacio were credited as inkers, with assists by Scott Williams. The panel art and Gog both look to be done by Portacio, while the inks on the back look more like Anderson’s mid-1980s style, but I’m not certain of either. As to specifics and condition, this piece was completed in ink and white paint (or white out) over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of approximately 10" x 15", although most of it isn’t filled in. There is toning, abrasions, production notes, staining (including a paper clip rust stain), smudging, finger prints, tape residue, and handling wear. Even taking the condition of this piece into account, the historical importance is undeniable! Page 11 recently sold for nearly $7000. This is truly an amazing piece at quite a bargain!
