IMAGE SIZE: 9.5" x 7" CONDITION: 50 YEARS OLD PERFECTMOUNTED BUT NOT FRAMEDABOUT THIS PICTURE George and I loved to walk home through the park after we'd been shopping in Oldham. Mother used to say, "It's because they like to see the ducks." But it wasn't. It was the black lump in the middle of the park lake that fascinated us. Grandma had told us the story of Jonah and the Whale, and one afternoon when we were walking by the lake I asked Grandma if a Whale could get in. "Well," she said, "if it did, it certainly couldn't get out." George and I were sure that the thing they called an island was really a Whale's back, and the more we looked at it the more sure we were that it had moved a bit nearer the landing-stage. ABOUT THE ARTISTBorn in Lees, a village outside Oldham, in 1900, Helen Bradley was over sixty when she began to paint — to show her small granddaughter what life was like when she herself was a child. To date she has held three exhibitions, two at the Mercury Gallery in London and one in Los Angeles. At her last London exhibition in 1970, every one of her paintings had been sold before opening day. 'The enchantment of the season,' said the International Herald Tribune, `and better than whole volumes of social history.' Compared to Grandma Moses, admired by Lowry, Helen Bradley's work have always bee in astonishing demand. MOUNTED PRINTS are identical visually to a regular paper or photographic image but enhanced with an extra-rigid backing to provide stability and protection. In short, the image is mounted onto a substance for ultimate protection against warping and damaged corners. The print is perfect for free-standing display, an album collection, or framing. We do not copy alter or reproduce any of the prints we offer for sale they are genuine published prints of the printing date stated below. You may occasionally see a similar item listed, this happens when we have more than one of the prints in the archives.AUTHENTICITY: We have a paper trail and history for all our pictures. This one was printed and released fifty years ago when the art history of Helen Bradley was being compiled and more recently mounted but not famed.WORLDWIDE POSTTHANK YOU FOR VISITING
