Description: As Long as I Have Breath by Reverend Alfred R. Twyman Today-Listen more than you talk.Pray with each breath.Seek light in the darkness.Love all-even those who revile you.And remember, God is always in our midst. To pray is to breathe. As an ordained minister, a prison chaplain-and most of all, a searching soul-Rev. Alfred Twyman believes that to pray is to breathe, and that every breath we take is a prayer. And just as our greatest gift from God is our each and every breath, we are equally gifted with His answers to the prayers we utter from dawn to dark-prayers that carry us from despair to hope, from heartbreak to solace, from sadness to joy. God listens. God hears these prayers.Rev. Twyman offers the prayers and reflections in this book to those in search of peace, love, kindness, and respect in a troubled world. He has filled its pages with laments, praises, and intercessions created over years of helping incarcerated individuals and many others draw near to God, break down the walls of the heart, and find the words that will let their prayers flow from deep within. The chapters in As Long as I Have Breath encompass prayers conceived for countless moments ranging from desperation to celebration-from confronting need to giving thanks. For those who seek a loving relationship with others and with God, Rev. Twymans prayers are here to guide them along the path of "a journey built on a promise." FORMAT Paperback LANGUAGE English CONDITION Brand New Author Biography Rev. Alfred R. Twyman Jr. believes in the power of prayer and its ability to transform lives. He has worked in parish and prison ministry for more than twenty-four years as a pastor and chaplain, where he has lead prayer groups and taught prayer as a major pastoral technique to a variety of denominations. As Long as I Have Breath is a compilation of some of the prayers that Rev. Twyman has said over his years of ministry. He believes that prayer is a combination of hope, humility, and faith-and that it offers freedom and gives people a sense of place in the world. He insists that prayer provides a relationship with God that anchors and strengthens the soul. Born and raised in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, during the 1950s, Twyman grew up in a time of segregation when the Black Church and prayer meetings were essential to survival. He often says, "We lived to pray and prayed to live during those times." Twyman is a retired Navy officer and graduate of the Naval War College, where he earned a masters degree in Strategic Theory and Foreign Affairs. He studied for pastoral ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) with a concentration in Christian Ethics. He was awarded the Princeton Seminary Ethics Award for his work in prison and urban ministry. Rev. Twyman is an ordained minister in The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and holds standing in the United Church of Christ. He currently serves as a regional chaplain for the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
