It is much more about the brightness of the stone, the type of opal, the type of color pattern, if it is visible from all angles or if it has "directional color flash", meaning it only flashes its most brilliant colors from one viewing angle. Because of the way the opal is formed, it has natural inclusions within the stone. The less these inclusions are visible within the stone, the more valuable the stone! As I make all my own settings, I set the stone according to how the color presents itself and the best angle for the best flash of color. PLEASE NOTE:Opal always looks best in direct sunlight. Photographs never show the true beauty of opal. Opal is inherently difficult to photograph and illustrate the color play of the stone.
