Description: 100 % authenticAuthentic from Victorian period to WWI Cap badge of the Gordon Highlanders .Found in the River Thames mud in London .Uncleaned . Nice patina . The headdress badge adopted was taken from the 92nd, raised by the Gordon family in 1794. It comprised the family crest, being a stag's head and neck emerging from a Ducal coronet, a scroll below bearing the motto BYDAND, not a Gaelic but a Lowland Scots dialect word meaning "steadfast". An ivy wreath, another badge of the family, surrounded all. The crest, motto and ivy wreath had been in use by the 92nd as a headdress badge since at least 1861.
