Tactical Radio Gear, BPF-200/BP model filters, are designed for use with 100W/200W PEP transceivers. There are frustrating problems with mono-band filters: 1. The principal one, is the requirement to take it out of line, if a different band/frequency is to be used. 4. CAUTION: Do not transmit on another band, other than the one that is listed on the filter! This can potentially damage both the radio and the filter! We have searched to no avail, for a low-cost/reasonably priced product, that would permit a filter to be switched out of line when not in use? We found nothing at any price, which solves this problem! Thus the BPF-200 with by-pass was created; eliminating all the above problems. BPF-200 with By-Pass System Includes: 1. A [3’] control cable from the remote by-pass switch, to the Band Pass filter; with an LED indicator to show when the filter is in-line. Hi-Q Precision Silver Mica capacitors, and heavy-duty inductors, are used in the L/C tuned circuits. Each filter is individually tuned on a state of the art computer testing system. VSWR & POWER CONSIDERATIONS Hi VSWR will generate damaging RF voltages, and currents in a bandpass filter. VSWR is a reality that we have to be attentive to; and Tactical radio gear has made every effort to protect the filter components from these potentially damaging forces. These designs are over-engineered, with vigilant consideration to component selection. No expense was spared to insure the reliability and performance of our filters. The weak-link in most Bandpass filters; at these power levels, in a high VSWR condition, are the capacitors. Tactical Radio Gear, uses High-Frequency, High-Power, High-Voltage, Silver Mica capacitors; ideal for use where multilayer ceramic caps are not recommended because of cracking. The natural mica dielectric retains it’s extremely high-Q to many megahertz; and is free from thermal cracking. Silver Mica capacitors are Ideal for tuned L/C Circuits & High RF current.All the inductors in our filters are wound with the largest possible gauge wire, consistent with sensible design practices.
