Description: This is an original set published in 1977 and they are in Mint Condition. You are buying from one of the largest stockist of cigarette and trade cards in the UK. Asterix is a cartoon character originally illustrated by Albert Underzo who appeared in Franco-Belgian comics. The colourful cards feature the adventures of Asterix a clever warrior of ancient Gaul as he and his strong but dim best friend Obelix and the residents of their village try to resist Roman occupation in 50BC. They are aided in this goal by druid Getafix who brews a potent brew which gives temporary superhuman strength to anyone who drinks it. Asterix frequently travels abroad, even to Rome, but always returns to his home village after outwitting the Romans yet again. Part of the fun was the witty names given to the characters, for instance the chief is Vitalstatistix,, the dog belonging to Obelix is dogmatix, a Roman Centurion is called Crismus Bonus and the up-to-no-good chief of a rival Gaulish village was known as Chief Whosemoralsarelastix. An album was also produced to hold these cards. All good fun with details on the back.
