Description: Maker: Although this exquisite gold encrusted creamer is unmarked, other pieces in the same china service have the word "Satsuma" written in red in Japanese hiragana lettering. The design and the quality of the porcelain suggest that it was made in Japan in the early part of the 20th century but that is not confirmed. Production of this type of Satsuma china began in the early 19th century, originating in the province of Satsuma, Japan, and later spreading to other cities. Design: The creamer is classically designed and rich in detail. On each side are three finely painted figures against a porcelain background accented in superb gold moriage and white beading. It features an ornately decorated spout. Condition: Despite its apparent age, the creamer is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, repairs or crazing. There is wear to the handle and spout; it's visible in the photos. Size: The creamer is 4 1/2 inches wide between the tip of the spout and the far end of the handle, 3 inches wide at the center and 3 inches tall at the tip of the spout. It weighs 5 ounces. Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
