FORMAT Hardcover CONDITION Brand New Publisher Description If you want to try new things, you have to be brave. But you cant be brave without also being scared. While Jennie grew up wanting to please other people, Abram followed his heart from an early age. The two couldnt have been more different, and yet when they met Jennie fell in love with Abrams fearlessness. But when life takes a turn for the worst and Abram is no longer by Jennies side, will she find her own courage? This poignant and heart-felt picture book explores themes of love, grief and believing in yourself in a gentle and uplifting way. With a contemporary setting and characters which many readers will see themselves in, this book is great for inspiring little ones and starting important conversations. Author Biography Jennies background is in arts fundraising and working with young people, which is how she met her late husband, the acclaimed jazz trumpeter Abram Wilson. The pair worked on numerous projects together up until Abrams passing in 2012, after which Jennie set up the Abram Wilson charity - an organisation which opens doors to the music industry for minoritised young talent. The organisation has grown to work with over 200 performing artists and Jennie has gone on to win a WACL Future Leader Award. This is Jennies first childrens book. Tomekahs delicately hand-crafted illustrations have featured in newspapers, food packaging, pottery, classrooms, books and digital campaigns across the US, UK & Europe. Her work is constructed from early memories and love for Afrofuturist themes expressed through a blend of colourful and textural layers. Her handmade process continually fuels a bold style creating unique pieces that sit somewhere between a print, collage and a painting. Review This profoundly moving picture book for 4 or 5+ tells the story of a fearful little girl – Wilson herself – who grows into a woman always braced for the worst, and of the brave, creative musician she marries. Her story of weathering his loss, and learning to be "scared and brave, happy and sad, all at the same time", is heightened by Georges delicate yet hugely powerful illustrations. -- Imogen Russell Williams * The Guardian *A gentle, heart-warming story about love, grief and finding the courage to live boldly.
