The subject matter of her prints was primarily the beautiful landscape of California – its mountains and crags, hidden lakes, rivers and streams, shorelines, vistas, and trees. Clearly influenced by the teachings of Arthur Wesley Dow, Frances Gearhart’s approach to printmaking was bold in her use of color and strong lines. Her prints in the Arts and Crafts style rank among the finest of the genre. "Behold The Day" is the catalog that accompanied an exhibition of Gearhart’s prints at the Pasadena Museum of California Art in 2009-2010. It contains four scholarly, illustrated essays detailing the life and work of Frances Gearhart as well as more than 60 full-color, full-page reproductions of her woodblock prints. This is a new 2018 reprint of the original 2009 catalog.
