Description: Beautiful small 19th century painting of a shepherdess in the forest with grazing cattle by listed Hungarian artist Bela Von Spanyi. Listed Artist: Béla Von Spanyi (1852-1914) Budapest, Hungary Signature: Stamped Legacy stamped on reverse, no visible hand signature. Medium: oil on wood panel Dates: late 19th century-approx 1880-1890’s-exact age is unknown as painting is not dated. Measures: Painting-4” x 10.75” Frame- 7.25” x 13.75 Frame-appears to have been custom reframed in the early 20th century Condition: Heavy toning from age, couple paint chips, thin white paint lines appearing in middle ground, small area of age cracks and or crazing. Surface stains, couple scuffs, some paint loss, most likely frame abrasions as painting is a bit loose in frame, other spots and or stains. Needs a bit of restoration. Frame condition: Paint loss, abrasions, chips, cracks, corners need reinforcement as they are separating from each other, split, toning, stains and spots. Painting would benefit from a nice newer frame. I would consider this frame damaged. Painting and frame are sold as-is, as shown.
