Description: Introduction by Marty Bronson. Bill Cunningham: Facades is the result of a long-term collaboration between Mr. Cunningham and his friend, fellow photographer and neighbor at Carnegie Hall Studios, Editta Sherman. Like Mr. Cunningham, “the Duchess of Carnegie Hall” was a devoted collector of vintage clothes. On weekends, Mr. Cunningham photographed her on the streets of New York wearing ensembles put together from their collections. Each image matches clothing with architecture that exemplifies the period, ranging from the late 18th century to the 1950s. - Glenn O'Brien, The New York Times, March 13, 2014 There are about 130 black-and-white photographs, each one accompanied by brief descriptions of the building and the fashion. The descriptions connect the buildings to the fashions of the time, as in: 1930. Eldorado Towers, 330 Central Park West. Twin-towered Art-Deco apartment buildings provided a dramatic skyline on the west side of the park, and the women who lived in them were slipcovered in sleek bias-cut dresses that incorporated many the [sic] motifs of the buildings. 128 pages7 1/2" x 10"
