Description: In 30+ years of collecting Pflueger reels, I've only seen the all-plastic spools on Skilkast and Summitt 1993L made between 1946 and 1947 (based on dated boxed reels). By 1948, the plastic spools had disappeared and none are mentioned when Pflueger recommenced producing catalogs in 1948, following a WW2 hiatus. Perhaps there was a shortage of aluminum after World War II or perhaps Pflueger got caught up in the plastic hype. But--for whatever reason--this was a short-lived experiment. All-plastic spool Pflueger reels are a bit scarce. This 1993L ("L" for lightweight spool, which was always cataloged as aluminum) has white handle knobs and "PATENTED PATS. PEND." stamped on the foot. The reel is a bit dirty, so I'll grade it as Exc-, but it will clean up to Exc. It runs smooth.
