BROWN GOODYEAR, Antique BUTTON, Civil War Era, 1851 Pat., LARGE

Description: Antique clothing button was produced in the mid 1800s. The button was made by the by the India Rubber Company, with a Goodyear patent. It is marked on the back: I. R. C. Co, 1851, Goodyear. The button is lightly embossed -- and is brown and an NBS large size, both of which I understand are unusual for Goodyear buttons. I was told that it may be some sort of Civil War era uniform button, but I'm not sure about that. There is a molded-in, self-shank on the back. Please refer to the ruler pictured in the image for the exact button size. Overall condition: Solid VG+..... The button may have light surface wear or soiling -- but there are no cracks, cuts, or other more serious flaws. It is in nice shape and it will display quite well. My mom -- Nancy Moran -- was a longtime member of the National Button Society, plus was active in several local button clubs in New York.
