Description: Brown Pottery Arden North Carolina 1930's Arts & Crafts Lead Glaze Signed Vase Click images to enlarge Description I just purchased this vintage North Carolina art pottery vase / jar from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The vase was produced by Brown Pottery in Arden, NC and is impressed with the "BROWN POTTERY" stamp on the base (partially obscured). The pottery was founded by the Brown brothers who moved from Atlanta to Arden in 1924 (I believe this piece dates to the 1930's). The piece has a clean utilitarian form with slightly swelled body and clean formed rim. The fired stoneware is unglazed on the outside and has a clear lead (green tinted) gloss glaze on the interior. The vase measures 5 5/8" high, 4" wide and 3 ½" (O.D.) across the top rim. The base is also hand inscribed "2". The piece is in very good condition with no damage (one ½ pinhead open production air bubble on the surface). This handsome Brown Pottery vase would make a nice addition to any collection of vintage western / mountain North Carolina art pottery or Southern folk art. Pictures sell!
