Description: BRUCKNER’S Antique “TOPSY TURVY” Cloth Doll in VERY GOOD Condition!!!BRUCKNER’S “TOPSY TURVY” cloth doll and was produced in 1901 by the Albert Bruckner. This depicts “Topsy” (the black doll) and “Eva” (the white doll). She is a little over 12” including measurement of their hats. This doll is ALL ORIGINAL with her cloth embroidered tag (see pictures). Her condition is very good (and excellent considering her age of 120+ years) with one condition issue—look at the pictures because they are a part of the description. These dolls were some of the first mass market produced in the U.S. The earliest “topsy turvy” dolls were hand made in 1893. What makes Albert Bruckner’s patented version of this doll unique was his lithographed, molded-cloth mask faces with characteristic clothing found at the turn of the last century. FEATURES:· Both dolls have smiling expressions with red and cream multi-layer outfits. The doll itself is comprised of ecru colored cotton on both sides for head and torso. “Topsy” has a black mask over ecru colored head with black arms-- you can see in the pictures how the mask is placed over the stuffed head. “Eva: has an ecru colored mask over the ecru colored head with ecru colored arms.· “Eva” has painted hair while “Topsy” has a line of hair in front of her bonnet that is either mohair or real black hair with two (2) red bows. “Topsy” has the more interesting face and has additional painted braided hair with bow on the sides of her face (see pictures). Both have rouged cheeks.· Both dolls have bonnets that match their outfits. “Topsy” has primarily a red dress with ribbon trim at the sleeves with ecru lawn (light cotton) for her apron. “Eva” has a gingham red and cream checkered bonnet with ruffle and dress with the same ribbon trim at the sleeves and the same ecru lawn apron. CONDITION:· The clothing is in wonderful, original condition. “Topsy’s” red bows and big top knot of the bandana is intact. ALL seams are intact to the doll and clothing.· The Bruckner label is intact. · There is no odor (musty or smokey) with this doll and she has been on the lap of my Jumeau in an enclosed cabinet for past 3 years. I do NOT smoke. The repair is listed below.· She is in very good condition BUT “Eva” was missing her right arm when I purchased her in a Nebraska Antique mall several years ago. I matched the ecru color thicker cotton cloth at the local Joann’s fabric shop and made a pattern from the left arm and stuffed it with the same amount of material to match the other side. It took me 3 tries to get the dimension of the pattern right. I do minor doll repairs for only my dolls (repair of a leather arm to my 140-year-old wax doll with leather body; cleaning antique bisque doll faces, eyes, bodies; restringing) and actively sew too. think my replacement looks like a great match, but please look at the pictures and the price reflects this issue.· “Eva’s” lithographed face has some fading (hair more than face)—see pictures.· “Topsy’s” lithographed face is in wonderful condition but has a nose and chin rub—see pictures.
