Description: Started in 1910 by Fred Lundahl, the Moline Pressed Steel Company originally produced fenders for vehicles and provided auto body parts for cars and supplied materials for the farming equipment manufacturer, International Harvesting Company. Lundahl himself wanted to find a more durable alternative for toy vehicles for his own son Arthur, or “Buddy.” The company started manufacturing toys in 1920, after reportedly making an all steel, scaled down International Harvester truck from the company’s scrap pile. After the success of this first design and execution, Fred Lundahl made a shift in the company and began selling Buddy L’s ‘toys for boys’, all steel creations that were often large enough for children to ride on top of, or smaller pull toys. F.A.O. Schwarz would be one of the earliest distributors of this toy line, and it was very successful leading up to the Great Depression, when Lundahl would sell the company. In 1941 the company was bought off of Moline Pressed Steel, by Henry Katz and Company. Buddy L would bounce between ownership hands a few more times, suffer a manufacturing recall in 2000, and one of its owners going bankrupt, before finally falling into the hands of the now named Gearbox Toys company, in 2001. This truck is in fair shape, with little blemishes on the surface of the truck itself. The front left hubcap is missing paint, as well as the back wheel wells and blemishes to the plastic windows and windshields. The front bumper shows signs of blemishes and aging, primarily to the coloration of the metal rather than the physical structure. However the plastic dividers and clear roofing of the kennels itself are missing from the back, leaving only a clean, empty bed. The truck bed shows some signs of rusting, however the metal is still fully intact and strong. All wheels roll great. Buddy L sticker is intact on both sides, and no visible disruption to the logo on the front or back of the truck. Some paint missing off the back bottom left corner of the truck bed door. Entire truck measures approximately 13” L x 5” W x 5 ½”H. Please examine all photos closely.
