DETAILS: Case: ‘Ambassador ‘G’’ model. Rectangular, though noticeably different and subtly sophisticated. The bezel incorporates deeply incised sweeping curves to the sides of the crystal. The automatic movement is mounted in a deep recess in the case back giving rise to the watch having a more ‘chunky’ feel. Original & signed 'Bulova' and fitted with a new acrylic crystal. The 10kt gold plated bezel and case back have been cleaned & repolished and now look great. The case back is showing some wear through which has been soldered at some point in the past – please take a moment or two to be sure you are happy with this. In general the case looks good with wear/scratches present commensurate with the age of the watch. Crown: Original, signed ‘Bulova, showing some wear. Dial: Very eye-catching & immaculate. The dial has been professionally refinished to a high standard in a charcoal/dark grey colour accentuating and complementing the case. The even number hour positions are marked with numerals whilst the odd hour positions are pyramid shaped squares. All are gilt and slightly raised on the dial. The ‘Bulova’ name, ‘selfwinding’ minute chapter and sub-second dial are in gold tone. Hands: The hour and minute hand and sub-second hands are all original, gilt, pitched ‘Alpha’ style. Movement: BULOVA Swiss manual & selfwinding movement. This is an unusual 8BBA calibre with 17 jewels marked ‘L8’ for 1958. The movement allows for both manual and self-winding. It is designed to prevent over-winding. The movement has been cleaned, oiled & adjusted, and at the time of listing is running well keeping good time ready to wear. As with all vintage watches regular servicing is recommended. Size: Rectangular, approx. 36.22mm lug to lug X 25.62mm excluding the crown. Approx. 28.13mm excluding the lugs. Band: A new 18mm black band with gold tone buckle has been fitted which sets off this watch perfectly. ___________________________________________________________________________________ General comments: This is a delightful example of a Bulova ‘Ambassador’ automatic watch from 1958 which has been restored to appeal once again. The repolished case and refinished charcoal dial make the watch highly attractive. The watch has a pleasing classic look being somewhat larger in size compared to other watches of that period.The case back is showing wear which has been soldered at some point in the past.
