Description: Stereoview trick photo circa 1860's showing the same man both seated & standing. We suspect that there is a good chance that this trick image is of the photographer himself who took the photos. This is frequently the case when the occasional trick photo of this era shows up. However, there is some possibility that this view is of some local political candidate wearing a ribbon badge supporting one of the presidential candidates. But, we cannot be certain on this point one way or another. Based on several other stereoviews that we found with this view & the look of the mount we are estimating that it specifically dates to 1864. Interestingly, the man in both of his poses is wearing a ribbon with a badge at the center. In all likelihood this is a political campaign ribbon badge for the 1864 presidential campaign of either Lincoln or McClellan. Unfortunately, this ribbon badge is so small in the images that we cannot see it close enough or blow it up enough to prove this one way or another. But, it seems probable that this is what he is wearing. The stereoview measures 6 3/4 inches by 3 7/16 inches. In script on the back is written in pencil in period a name with a number below the name. We cannot read all of the name. It appears that the name reads something like Mr. James "Carssy". But, we are not really sure of the last name. There is a light stain at the back top. There is some minor loss to the surface on the back paper at the left border & at the top left just in from the corner. There is a wrinkle on the back center that does not break the back surface. There is no sign of any wrinkle whatsoever on the front. There are some minute insignificant flaws on the top border of the image. Otherwise the condition of this stereoview can be clearly seen in the accompanying image. The reference number for this item is #3477.
