Description: c 1920 Hammersley & Co fluted duo, spectacular "Queen Anne" chintz pattern #13166, one of the harder to find patterns from this wonderful producer. Produced in the Alsager pottery, Longton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. Dimensions: The fabulous flat cup stands 5.5 cm tall and spans 13 cm from the outer edge of the handle to the outer edge of the cup.The saucer has a diameter of 14 cm. Masses of gorgeous hand painted flowers in the most brilliant colours, with heavy gilding around the edges, truly spectacular. The colours and gilding remain bright, crisp and fresh. The various pieces I have listed in this pattern were made to order for the retailer John Bates & Co Ltd in Christchurch, New Zealand. The saucer is in perfect "as new" original antique condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration that I can identify, but the cup has heavier crazing and discolouration both inside and to the reverse of the foot, refer images 4 & 5. There are a few random, very small kiln fleck or glaze marks, and some micro crazing, entirely consistent with the manual production techniques of the time. The reverse of both pieces bear the Hammersley & Co China England back stamp, the retailer's details, and a hand written pattern number. I have listed duos, trios, a milk jug & sugar bowl and 2 serving plates in this pattern separately. I do combine postage for multiple purchases where practical and will refund any difference immediately after posting. Ref 1585
