Description: This is a nice, original Axel Lindahl albumen photo titled "Bergen Fantoft Stavekirke" at bottom-left corner of photo. Photo marked Andvord, Christiania, Eneret Norge Fotografi AF Axel Lindahl. Fantoft stavkyrkje (Fantoft stave church, Fantoft, Bergen kommune, Hordaland fylke, Norway). Picture taken in the periode 1880 - 1890. On the 6 June 1992 the church was totally destroyed by arson. Reconstruction of an exact copy of the church was promptly initiated, and finally completed in 1997. Axel Theodor Lindahl (1842-1906) was a Swedish photographer notable for his early photography of Norwegian landscapes. Unlike many of his contemporary photographers who emphasized the dramatic nature of Norwegian landscapes, Lindahl sought in his composition the harmonious aesthetic of his subject matter. He did is work in Norway from 1875-1896. Photo measures 6.5" x 9" and is mounted on stiff card that measures 9" x 12" There is some mild rubbing wear to edges of card.
