c.1900 HB Quimper France Cobalt & Broderie Trim Breton Man & Woman Square Plates

Description: Recent Northern Virginia estate find. We purchased a very large number of French Faience style pottery pieces and will be listing several items on eBay over the next couple of weeks from this estate. These pieces are in overall outstanding condition and include some very obscure and rare pieces from a very established collector. Offering a beautiful and quite scarce set of two, French HB Quimper 8 1/4" dessert-sized square plates. The mark on the underside generally dates to around 1895 to approximately 1918. This is the first of two pairs of plates that we will be listing on eBay with this design, size and shape. This pair is in excellent overall condition. The only slight issue we found is a couple shallow chips or roughness on the underside rest rim of the plate with the man (see last photo). Extremely insignificant and has no impact to the stability nor the display value of this plate. Some very faint, fine transparent crazing, but very exceptional for the age of these pieces. Consistent with pottery of this style and date, you will find some very small and insignificant glaze skips, glaze variations, or possibly a couple slight manufacturing firing inclusions. The underside does show firing rest marks. On these two plates, the base cobalt blue color is deep, the colors are vibrant, and the glaze has a very nice sheen. Look to be unused or display pieces.
