Description: Every Book by Famous Canadian Bank Robber/Prisoner Roger Caron 4 Book Lot Roger "Mad Dog" Caron (April 12, 1938 – April 11, 2012) was a Canadian robber and the author of the influential prison memoir Go-Boy! Memories of a Life Behind Bars (1978). Overcame illiteracy to become a published author, won the Governor General's Award for English-language non-fiction in 1978 while in Kingston Penitentiary. Caron was 39 the year he made the transition from bank robber to celebrated author. By then, the Cornwall native had spent 23 years in Canada’s jails, including several stints in Kingston Pen. Yet rather than break him, Caron’s experiences inside the country’s roughest prisons became his means of transforming himself into a literary star. Caron received his first prison sentence as a teenager, but seemed on the straight path following the success of his book. But the infamous figure — known for breaking out of prison more than a dozen times — would eventually run into trouble again. In 1993, he was convicted of seven crimes after being arrested following a robbery at an Ottawa Zellers store. Later that year he also pleaded guilty to charges of hostage-taking and assault at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital. And in 2004, Caron was sentenced to 20 months for illegally possessing a pistol. He had been arrested at Ottawa's Rideau Centre in October 2001 with a loaded .32-calibre pistol, a wig, a change of clothes, a knife, surgical gloves and duct tape in a gym bag. Caron was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the early 1980s.He died in hospital one day before his 74th birthday, April 10, 2012. This is an amazing lot of Canadian History by one of Canada's most famous prison writers!Plus a signed copy of Bingo! 1. Go Boy! An autobiography of a man who spent twenty-three of his thirty-nine years locked behind prison walls. Winner of the 1978 Governor General's Award for Non-fiction, 1978. 2.
