Description: CARCASS - Reek of Putrefaction CD *NOTES: This album certainly needs no introduction. The one, the only, the often-imitated, but never-again-to-be topped, debut splatter-platter from the seminal U.K. Gods of Grind, CARCASS, Reek of Putrefaction. It's still hard to believe, and inconceivable, that this stuff was recorded as far back as 1987 (!)... Really the first true guttural gore/death metal album ever to be released -- and certainly one of the all-around greatest extreme metal LPs of all time. Up for sale here is this awesome 2002 reissue, which is noted to be among the last CD reissues of this album, ever to feature its truly repulsive and nauseating ORIGINAL cover artwork, conceived by then-18-year-old genius bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker. He is famously known to have compiled this grotesque collage of mutilated body parts, and other such nasties, from his sister's (who was a nursing student at the time) collection of medical journal textbooks. This art, and the album in general, still have not lost their essential power to shock, even 35+ years later. Earache in fact apparently got way too coy, and prudent on us again, and seems to have again done away permanently, with Reek's original art, and even now its lyrics (!), on all Reek reissues, of any format, from 2013 on, probably never again to see the light of day. That easily makes this CD a highly collectible and out-of-print rarity, and actually the only officially licensed Earache jewel case (as opposed to the less-sturdy 2008 digipack one) version to contain the original art. *CONDITION SPECIFICS: Disc surface is shiny and Near-Mint, with virtually no signs of use. Both booklet and back insert are in flawless, superb condition, with no noticeable wear to either. NO hole-punches or promo marks of any kind! All in all, a gorgeous copy of an album that you simply NEED to own, if you call yourself an extreme metal fan...
