Description: New Harmony Indiana Author: Pelham, Carolina Creese Title: New Harmony Indiana Publication: n.p. Self published, 1924 Description: Wraps. Stapled printed wraps. Approx. 6.25" x 3". 11 pages. Very good. From the first two paragraphs:"New Harmony was built during the year 1824 to 1824 by the Harmonists, a company of Communists from Wertemberg, Germany, who were under the leadership of George Rapp. The Harmonists came to America in 1803 in order that they might find a land of religious tolerance. They first bought land in Butler County, Pennsylvania, and built the town of Harmony, Penn. After several years residence there they decided to seek a milder climate and a location suitable to vine growing and agriculture.A location was found in Southwestern Indiana on the Wabash, fifty miles above the mouth. They purchased some thirty thousand acres and in June, 1814, began building the town of Harmonie, Indiana." Very good. Seller ID: 33180 Subject: American History, Americana David A.
