The Gold Record was awarded by RIAA on January 15, 1976, which is why the award is a "floater." On the back is the label of the New York Frame & Picture Company which made the award. The award was presented to Barry Krost, the personal manager of Cat Stevens and comes from his recent estate sale The album Numbers was the first concept album by Cat Stevens. Subtitled "A Pythagorean Theory Tale", the concept of the album is a fantastic spiritual musical which is set on the planet Polygor. In the story there is a castle with a number machine whose sole purpose is to disperse numbers (1 through 9 but no 0) to the rest of the universe. There are nine inhabitants on the planet called Polygons who have lived in an unchanging routine until one day something changes. I have no idea what happens next as I have never listened to the album. However, the unusual content of the album caused A&M Records to threaten to terminate his contract unless he agreed to release a pop record next. This led to Izitso.
