This new portion of Air Mail Route 81 designated as Segment 10 involved cities previously served by this route with the exception of Independence / Coffeyville / Parsons, using the same airport and served between Topeka and Bartlesville.This cover was carried on the March 13, 1961 inaugural Air Mail Route 81 flight from Independence, Kansas to Kansas City, Missouri (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Contract Air Mail Flights (CAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as 81S78.Effective October 1, 1967, Central Airlines and Frontier Airlines were merged with Frontier Airlines being the survivor company.
