Description: Cercis Chinensis is a deciduous tree in the Fabaceae family. A native to China where it grows from 500 to 4,500 feet in elevation. The common name is Chinese Redbud. It can grow to 50 feet tall in China but is usually seen around 5-10 feet tall here in the U.S. and usually in shrub form. The leaves are circular around 6 inches in diameter and come to a taper at the end. The flowers are a deep pink to light red in color, and lots of them from late Winter to Mid-Spring. The flowers are fragrant and edible. This slow-growing small tree will need to be protected from hard winds and weather to thrive. It prefers to grow in full sun and well-drained soil. Zones 6-9 Germination Soak seeds in warm water overnight. Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot.
