Description: Charles Parker Co. 974-1/2 Vise, with 4-1/2" wide Jaws - weighing nearly 70lbs., USA Made. Please contact me first, if you plan local pickup. Opened the jaws to about 5-1/2" and it started to topple from the work table. Probably a 6" official opening, but I stopped early. Of note, it is FAR cleaner now than when it arrived. Found an abundance of embedded grease and dirt, which covered layers of paint and rusty areas beneath. It has been disassembled, lightly cleaned, and lightly reassembled just for the pictures. It seems to be mechanically intact. In addition to the slight bend in the handle, I do note some "slop" - about 3/8in. - when opening or closing. Meaning the handle spins but the jaw stays put until the (??) device receiving the turns of the handle slides into a stopped position - either forward or back. I think this could be corrected by adding a short shim/spacer block behind that device - between it and its stop pin. I would think vise history sites may have the real specs on this one - to me its about 11High, 11Wide and 18Deep. Plenty of history recorded in the various dings, and at least two colors of paint. May have to disassemble and ship in sections.. USPS Ground advantage has a max of 70 lbs. Possibly two heavy boxes, not one.
