Description: Cherokee Strip F-7B Liberator 44-40198 WWII Writing On Back photo The Cherokee strip was a F-7B Liberator converted to a F-7B photographic reconnaissance version. The Cherokee strip flew at least 106 photographic reconnaissance missions over Netherlands, New Guinea, East Indies and Philippines. On April 21, 1945 the Cherokee Strip took off from McGuire Airfield in San Jose on Mindoro, on a test flight. During the flight, an engine caught fire and the bomber ditched into the sea of San Teresa on southwest Mindoro The Writing on the back of the Photo says: "Did you ever see anything like this at the Pendleton round up?" This was sent from a soldier sending to a friend in Oregon. The Pendleton Round-Up is a major Rodeo in Pendleton Oregon. it started in 1910, During WWll Pendleton round up was cancelled in 1943 and 1944 the only time in it's history besides 2020.
