Chico Hamilton Man From 2 Worlds Vinyl LP MONO Impulse A-59 Van Gelder 1964

Description: Though I prefer his 50's recordings with Fred Katz and Jim Hall, this is a darn good offering from Hamilton and company circa 1964. Charles Lloyd, clearly under the influence of Coltrane at this point in his career, manages to assert his own voice through a number of compelling, self-penned originals that push the envelope of where jazz was going in the early sixties. "Forest Flower," often referenced by Hamilton/Lloyd fans (and with good reason), is about as bold as it got back then, and listening to it now it still seems more daring than a lot of what is termed "jazz" nowadays. Overall this record is pretty adventurous until you hit the last track, the wistful, lyrical "Lullaby to a Baby," a track that sounds like something Hamilton would have recorded years earlier.
