Description: Glossy Commemorative Card (6" x 4") Containing Four Chinese Classical Poetry Postage Stamps From 1989 - First Day Cover. The Stamps are behind a protective cover and are uncirculated. Ch'u Ts'u, representative of the literature of Southern China during the Chun Chiu (Spring and Autumn) period (722-481 BC) of Chinese history, is as famous a collection of poems as Shih Chin (Book of Odes) which is indigenous to Northern China. Generations of literary critics since the Six Dynasties (222-589 AD) have reached a consensus that the two compendiums of masterpieces are undoubtedly and uniquely the very fountainhead of all Chinese poetry, lyrics and verses of later times. Chu Yuan, one of the authors of the collection and poet of poets, was, among other things, the first recorded poet in Chinese history. The main subjects of their composition are life, realistically, philosophically, and in many other facets of our being. As before, only two sentences out of a piece, the most loved expressions by generations of Chinese, appear on the stamps.
